Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, O’Brien centralizes on why people carry what they do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don’t carry that one textbook that one day, I’ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Crosss who carry’s a picture of and intangible feelings for Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The author’s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to supplement our overall total lasting impression. His parents and his sister Grete try to rouse him so he can make it to his dreary job as a traveling salesman. The family depends on him for its livelihood. Gregor, however, is now a bug. When a clerk from his company comes to demand an explanation for his absence, Gregor makes a great effort to open the bedroom door and show himself. This sends the terrified clerk tearing down the stairwell and Gregors family into shock. Grete, more than his father or mother, handles the situation practically. Gregor is fed, and his room is cleaned. Before long, however, economic reality requires all three to find work, and less attention is paid to Gregorexcept when he gets out of his room. No one in the family is fully able to reconcile him- or herself to the insect Gregor, and Gregor is unable to express himself to his family. My question is can listening to music improve your ability to work out more intensely and increase your output? This question of whether or not music is an aid has been a long discussed topic on whether or not music bears any effect on improving ones activity in sport or exercise. Many studies have concluded that music can improve your endurance, extend your workouts and can be used as a mind setting tool. Other studies have mound results that find listening to music while exercising can actually be detrimental and ineffective towards working out. In such studies the claims have been made that music can actually lower your want to exercise, can cause hearing damage and worsen your grip when it comes to weight lifting. The side I personally side with is that of the studies who find music as a positive aid for working out. My reasoning for siding with the side that argues music does improve exercise is from my own personal experience Vive used music to motivate me and it has worked. Now in my question I posed I want to know if music improves your ability to workout and increase your output.
